Kieran Halpin

5 August @ 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM

Guest Performer John Fegan formerly of Rough Red!

After 20 years fronting one of Australia’s most iconic folk rock bands, Rough Red, John has a wealth of stories and songs about people and places from all the far flung corners of Europe and Great Britain. A renowned raconteur and award winning writer the stories resonate with all the colour, pathos and drama of a magical musical journey.

Rough Red was the first Aussie band to play in many of the great summer festivals of Europe and Scandinavia forging a path that many would follow. John Fegan is all about a good yarn and a well-crafted song which takes the listener on a remarkable journey of laughter and music that very few ever get to experience …

Kieran Halpin returns to Mount Nebo!

Kieran   Halpin   returns   to   perform   at   MountNebo   Hall   Mount   Nebo Queensland   after   a   20   year   absence   on  Saturday 5   August   2017   at   8pm.   In   the   last   38  years   Kieran   Halpin   has   recorded   20   albums,   two   live   DVD’s   and   published   3  songbooks   with   50   songs   per   book.   He   is   rightly   regarded   as   one   of   the   hardest  working   musicians   with   upwards   of   160   shows   per   year.   Halpin   is   a   successful songwriter   with   many   of   his   songs   covered   by   other   artist   including   Dolores   Keane, The   Battlefield,   Vin   Garbutt,   Niamh   Parsons,   Ilse   De   Lange,   Geraldine   McGowan, Chris   Jones,   The   John   Wright   Band   and   countless   others.   Halpin’s   songs   are performed   in   clubs,   pubs   and   concert   halls   throughout   the   world.   His   albums   are eagerly awaited by fans and media alike and never fail to generate superlatives.

Never   one   to   stand   still,   Halpin   has   always   looked   for   new   and   innovative ways   to   present   his   songs.   It   is   this   fresh   approach   which   has   seen   him   record albums   of   varying   styles   all   around   the   world   –   from   a   tiny   studio   in   London,   to Nashville, Tennessee, from Dublin to Sydney and even in his own garage!

2017 sees the release of Halpin’s latest CD – Doll. It contains 11 new songs and was recorded and produced by legendary German producer Manfred Leuchter. Also featured are Manfred on accordion and piano, Yogi Jockusch on percussion, Antoine Puetz on bass and Ian Melrose on guitar and dobro.

Whilst   his   albums   are   always   something   to   look   forward   to,   it   is   live   on stage   where   Halpin   makes   his   mark.   Powerful,   passionate,   intimate   and   intense   –  he   is   impossible   to   ignore.   His   voice   has   such   an   edge   to   it   that   he   sounds   like he’s   living   every   song.   He   manages   to   marry   his   intelligent   and   often   thought provoking   lyrics   with   great   melodies   and   his   now   trademark   acoustic   guitar   sound.  All   of   this   is   underscored   by   an   incisive   wit   and   surprising   humour,   –   very   sardonic and   dry   –   which   helps   an   audience   understand   where   the   songs   come   from   and   hint  at where they might be going.

A   unique   writer   and   performer,   his   work   is   as   individual   as   Billy   Joel,   Neil   Finn, Joni Mitchell, Paul Brady or John Martyn.

BARRY   WRIGHT   2010   –   Live   at   The   Folk   Club,   Torrevieja,   Spain….   “19   albums   and thousands   of   gigs into   a   career   that   started   in   1974………   his   lyrics,   his   confidence and ability to keep the audience attention are honed to perfection.”

FOLK   ROUNDABOUT   2005   –   A   BOX   OF   WORDS   AND   TUNES…..”Kieran   never disappoints,   and   Words   and   Tunes   is   a   worthy   addition   to   his   canon.”   “Each   song   is absolutely Halpin and couldn’t have been written by anyone else.”

ROCK   ‘N’REEL   SPRING   ’99   –   “SOLO”….”the   whole   performance   resonates   with   a compelling   immediacy   and   freshness,   proving   that   a   stripped-down   setting   is   an extremely   effective   context   for   appreciating   the   songs,   indeed   for   revealing   their  full power.”

Q-MAGAZINE   JUNE   ‘00   –   “JANGLE”….   “Kieran   Halpin   is   a   serious   performer. Since   his   1979   debut   he   has   produced   a   series   of   sharply   defined   albums,   and  Jangle” is his most ambitious since ‘93’s “The Rite Hand”. Strong stuff”.
